The Craft Behind It

How We Make Every Piece

  • Mixing the Metal

    Mixing the Metal

Copper and zinc are melted together in a furnace to form brass. The molten metal is cast into sheets or blocks, ready to be worked by hand.

  • Shaping by Hand

    Shaping by Hand

Artisans cut, beat and turn the metal into shape over anvils and wooden moulds. Every curve is formed by hand, which gives each piece its strength and character.

  • Polishing & Etching the Motif

    Polishing & Etching the Motif

Each piece is polished to bring out brass's warm golden glow. Artisans then etch traditional motifs into the surface by hand, so no two designs are exactly alike.

  • Quality Check

    Quality Check

Every piece is checked for finish, weight, balance and strength before it's packed. Only pieces that meet our standard leave the workshop.

Good to Know

Everything You're Wondering

Everything You're Wondering
What can I use it for?

Straining tea, coffee decoction, kadha and other drinks. It works for juices and small amounts of sauce too.

Will it fit my cup or mug?

The strainer bowl is about 6 cm wide, so it sits comfortably over standard cups, mugs and small kettles.

Does brass change the taste of my tea?

No. Tea passes through in seconds, too briefly for the brass to affect the flavour. Rinse it after each use so tea residue doesn't sit on the mesh.

How do I clean the mesh?

Tap out the leaves, then rinse the mesh under running water from the outside in, which pushes trapped particles out. For stubborn residue, use a soft brush with mild soap.

How do I care for the wooden handle?

Wash it quickly and wipe it dry. Don't soak the strainer or leave it in water, because the wood can swell or crack. A drop of food-grade oil now and then keeps it looking good.

Why does it turn dark?

It ages naturally, like good leather does. That darkening is actually protective, not damage. It is called Patina, oxidation of metal.

What if I change my mind?

You have 30 days to return it for your full money back, no questions asked.

Can I put it in the dishwasher?

Hand-wash only. It takes a minute and keeps it beautiful for decades.
