Good to Know

Everything You're Wondering

Everything You're Wondering
Does my food touch the paint or the kansa?

Neither. Every surface, including the eating surface, is sealed with a clear food-safe lacquer. Your food sits on the lacquer, which protects the painting and the metal underneath.

Can I serve hot food in it?

Yes. Hot dal, sabzi, rice and rotis are all fine. Keep it out of the microwave, oven and dishwasher, and away from direct flame. Heat at that level can damage the lacquer and the paint.

Do I get the traditional benefits of eating in kansa?

No, and we'd rather tell you upfront. Because the set is fully sealed, your food doesn't touch the metal. If that's why you're buying kansa, choose one of our unpainted kansa dinner sets. This set is for hand-painted art you can eat from every day.

Will the paint fade or chip?

Not with normal use and hand washing. The lacquer keeps the painting protected. What damages it: steel scrubbers, scouring powder, soaking overnight, and cutting directly on the thali with a sharp knife.

Will it turn dark like plain kansa?

Far less. The lacquer slows the natural darkening of the metal. Never polish it with Pitambari, tamarind, lemon or any metal cleaner. These strip the lacquer and can lift the paint.

How do I clean it?

Hand wash with mild liquid soap and a soft sponge, rinse, and wipe dry with a soft cloth. That's all it needs.

Will my set look exactly like the photos?

Very close, but not identical. Every piece is painted by hand, so lines and shades vary slightly from set to set. That's the sign it was painted, not printed.

What if I change my mind?

You have 30 days to return it for your full money back, no questions asked.
