Can I use this tawa on an induction cooktop?

No. Brass is non-magnetic, so it won't heat on induction. It works on gas stoves. Competitor brass tawas also say they don't work on induction.

Is it safe to cook on brass?

Yes. Brass has been used in Indian kitchens for centuries. The tawa has no chemical or non-stick coating. Just avoid cooking sour or acidic foods directly on it

Is the tawa kalai-lined?

No. Rotis, parathas and dosas are cooked with dry heat, so bare brass is suitable for them. We do not recommend you to cook anything sour on it.

What should I avoid cooking on it?

Avoid acidic ingredients like tomato, tamarind, lemon and vinegar, and don't leave food sitting on the tawa after cooking. It's made for rotis, parathas, chillas and dosas. Brass care guides list these acidic ingredients to avoid on brass.

Will rotis stick?

Not once the tawa is warmed properly. Heat it on medium for a minute or two before the first roti. A light wipe of ghee or oil helps with parathas and dosas. Brass doesn't need cast-iron-style seasoning.

How do I use it for the first time?

Wash it with mild soap and warm water, then dry it completely. Warm it on low flame, wipe a thin layer of oil over the surface, and let it cool. It's ready to use.

How do I clean it?

Wash it by hand with mild soap and a soft sponge, and dry it immediately. Don't use steel scrubbers, harsh cleaners or a dishwasher.

Why has my tawa turned dark or developed spots?

Both are normal with brass and don't affect cooking. Brass naturally darkens with heat and use. If a roti sticks, it can leave a mark on the surface. Just clean it off and carry on. To restore the shine, use Veda's cleaning gel or rub it with lemon and salt or tamarind paste, then rinse and dry well.
