How We Make Every Piece

The Craft Behind It

How We Make Every Piece

The Craft Behind It

How We Make Every Piece

  • Mixing the Metal

    Mixing the Metal

Copper and zinc are melted together in a furnace to form brass. The molten metal is cast into sheets or blocks, ready to be worked by hand.

  • Shaping by Hand

    Shaping by Hand

Artisans cut, beat and turn the metal into shape over anvils and wooden moulds. Every curve is formed by hand, which gives each piece its strength and character.

  • Polishing & Etching the Motif

    Polishing & Etching the Motif

Each piece is polished to bring out brass's warm golden glow. Artisans then etch traditional motifs into the surface by hand, so no two designs are exactly alike.

  • Quality Check

    Quality Check

Every piece is checked for finish, weight, balance and strength before it's packed. Only pieces that meet our standard leave the workshop.

Good to Know

Everything You're Wondering

Everything You're Wondering
How much ghee does it hold?

About 300 ml, enough for one to two weeks of daily use.

Does it come with a lid and spoon?

Yes, it comes with a fitted lid and a matching brass spoon.

Why is the inside tin-lined?

The tin lining (kalai) keeps ghee from touching bare brass. That keeps the flavour pure and prevents the greenish tinge brass can cause over time.

Can I pour freshly made ghee straight in?

Yes, once it's off the flame and has cooled for a few minutes. Never heat the pot on the stove. It's for storing and serving, not cooking.

How long will ghee stay fresh in it?

Several months at room temperature. Keep the lid closed, store it away from direct sunlight, and always use a clean, dry spoon. Moisture is what spoils ghee fastest.

Can I store oil or honey in it?

Oil, yes. It's ideal for cooking oils and til oil for pooja. For honey, pickles or anything sour, use a glass jar.

Why has my ghee turned slightly green?

This usually happens when salt or water gets into the ghee, through a wet or salty spoon or salted butter. Throw away the affected ghee, wash and dry the pot completely, and refill. If yellow brass is showing through the lining, get it re-tinned.

How do I clean greasy ghee residue?

Empty the pot and wipe out the leftover ghee with a paper towel. Wash it with warm water and mild soap, then dry it completely before refilling.

Will the tin lining need redoing?

Not often. A storage pot isn't heated or scraped, so the lining lasts much longer than in a kadhai. If you ever see yellow brass showing through, a local kalaiwala can re-tin it.

Why has the outside darkened?

This is natural oxidation and doesn't affect your ghee. To restore the shine, polish the outside with lemon and salt, then rinse and dry.
